Wine tasting dinner at Carluccio's

Prawns on marinated fennel, with a Santa Teresa Frascati, Fontana Candida

Wine great, although overpriced, fennel good, prawns ok

Saffron Risotto with Luganica sausage, with a Bricca Tondo Barbera Piemonte, Fontanafredda

Risotto odd, wine great, and good value for money

Chicken stuffed with peppers and parmesan with fried potatoes and mushrooms, San Felice Ciro Riserva, Librandi

Food good, wine a bit hard going - very full

Panna Cotta with gianduja, Aleatica di Puglia, Candido

Best course. Red dessert wine stunning combination with the panna cotta Posted by Picasa

A Castle Douglas hotel

Steak, onion rings, mushrooms, tomato

Poor. Particularly considering the location, surrounded as we were by plenty of 'prize coo'

'Traditional Scottish breakfast'

Almost entirely deep fried (even the scrambled egg, it appeared)

Pasta with an indistinguishable sauce

Surprisingly greasy

Poached kippers and a poached egg for breakfast

A better choice - very tasty Posted by Picasa

Dinner in London at Canteen

Devilled kidneys

Rib-eye steak, chips, watercress

First time at Canteen - great restaurant, good value for money, but a bit out of the way unless you're in the City. Posted by Picasa

Saturday lunch

Sea bass, onions and wine, stuffed with thyme, parsley, bay leaf and cloves

Beurre blanc - the wine's been strained into a saucepan after cooking the fish in it, and butter is beaten into it slowly
