Relais de la Poste - 1
While in France we were lucky enough to be taken out for dinner at the Relais du Poste in nearby Magescq. It's got two Michelin stars now, so we knew we were in for an evening of excessive waitering but amazing food.
The menu - rough translation:
- Lobster salad
- Foie Gras two ways
- Roast Pigeon
- Dessert
But one of the great things about these sorts of restaurants is that you get all sorts of extras. Here we were presented with these two as pre-starters. Smoked salmon on brioche with dill, and foie gras sandwiches! The foie gras sandwiches consisted of thin layers of foie gras sandwiched between a dense, fruity loaf. They were amazing.
Following these another amuse bouche. A foie gras and chutney mousse. Despite looking like a dessert it was very savoury. The mousse was light and airy, with the chutney adding a touch of sweetness to offset the rich foie gras flavours.
Being in the Landes region of France you have to expect lots of foie gras in everything you eat. Along with oysters it's one of the specialties of the area. The great thing about this meal was that they served it in so many different ways.
