Local sourcing competition
An enjoyable morning of local shopping (albeit not that low on food miles) as follows:
Bag of carnaroli rice from Carluccios
Jersey royals, vine tomatoes, courgettes, carrots and english strawberries from the market
Spanish olives from the olive stall
Wensleydale and blue brie from the cheese man
Sourdough loaf from the bakers
Dressed crab from the fishmongers
Label Anglais chicken, chipolatas and streaky bacon from the butchers
Competition time - prize to the person able to guess the complete price of the shopping via the comments section. Competition closes Monday 6pm BST. Good luck!

Carbonara for tea
I could eat this every Friday. It has the right combination of speed and luxury. Here I've mixed three egg yolks with some double cream, parmesan and black pepper. I'll add that to the cooked pasta with some slowly-fried pancetta to finish the dish.
The carbonara. The best bit is eating the stuck on bits of crispy pancetta from the bottom of the pan when all the rest is gone.
Green salad with a balsamic dressing

Summer supper
A great improvised starter. Prawns and asparagus in a garlic and lemon sauce. I stir fried the asparagus in a little olive oil for about 3 minutes, then added some halved (lengthways) prawns, thinly sliced garlic and lemon juice. Stir fried for another minute then served. Really fresh tasting.
Sainsbury's goats' cheese and caremalised onion filled pasta. Very nice, but with a disconcerting reminder of cheese and onion crisps

Lunch with friends
Eating outside because the weather was so nice - chilli with a baked potato, cheese and an artichoke salad
Salad recipe was requested, so here we go:
- Take a jar of artichoke hearts marinated in olive oil
- Chop them up, and add them and the oil to the bottom of a salad bowl
- Add the juice of one lemon, salt and pepper, then mix and leave for about 15 minutes
- Then add about 20 basil leaves, chopped, and some green, firm lettuce
- Toss, and shave plenty of parmesan on top
- Taste, and add more olive oil, lemon juice and salt to taste
Amazing key lime pie for pudding
And some elegant fairy cakes to finish

Dinner out in town
A good dinner at Andrew Edmunds. Started with a simple yet very fresh dressed crab, with some nice Chablis
Followed with an excellent NZ Pinot Noir - one of the nice things about the restaurant is that the markup on the wine seems remarkably low
With a main course of duck on a warm salad or pea shoots and roasted new potatoes. The duck was good, but the salad was poor - potatoes were a bit burnt, and too many peashoots for my liking
Dessert was strong - sticky toffee pussing with a glass of muscat
